Tuling Uses The Best Material for Your Aluminum Enclosure

Tuling uses the highest-quality aluminum for enclosure production.

6061 Aluminum Alloy Aluminum grade 6061 is often called the “Workhorse Aluminum.” Its properties include high strength, good corrosion resistance, great weldability, and acceptance of applied coating. These properties make them a common choice for general use in the architecture, construction, and automobile industries.
5052 Aluminum Alloy  The 5000 Series are also known as magnesium alloys, they also contain additional elements such as chromium and manganese. They are known for their medium to high strength and exceptional corrosion resistance, making them a great choice for marine applications.
6063 Aluminum Alloy Aluminum grade 6063 offers very similar properties to the 6061 series; they offer lower strength but better extrusion properties and corrosion resistance. It is often used as an architectural alloy for interior and exterior applications.
Aluminum 7075-T6 The 7000 series are the strongest alloys available, even compared to steel. Their properties include extreme hardness, heat, and stress resistance. These alloys are commonly used in aerospace, military, and automotive industries thanks to their properties.
Aluminum 2024-T3 The 2024 grade aluminum series is known for its high strength and excellent fatigue resistance. Thanks to its high performance in demanding environments, it is primarily used in the marine, defense, and automotive industries.

Design Options of Tuling Aluminum Enclosures

Design Options of Tuling Aluminum Enclosures

Different shapes of aluminum enclosures are essential to achieve functionality, aesthetics, and space optimization. That’s why Tuling offers all types of custom aluminum enclosure shapes:

Folded box shape – Thanks to its unique shape, this aluminum enclosure provides easy access for service and additional mounting options.

F shape – An F-shaped case is commonly used to enclose electronics components. For example, PCBs with connections on both sides work well in an F-shaped case.

U shape – U-shaped boxes have three sides, forming a U-like structure. They have strong bases and are easy to access for repairs.

L shape – The L shape is ideal for fitting components into corners and edges thanks to its geometry.

Rectangle Shape – The rectangle model of aluminum enclosures forms a box-like shape. Thanks to their size and length, they are suitable for protecting instruments and tools.

Round – Offering a 360-degree symmetry, round shape aluminum enclosures enable equipment installation and storage for specific needs, especially in demanding environments.

Square – Square aluminum enclosures offer customizable equal-length sides, are easy to install, and are commonly used for electronic systems and components.

Mounting Options We Offer

Depending on the environment the aluminum enclosure will be installed, we offer different mounting options: pole mount kits, rack mounting, panel mounting, and additional help with anchors, screws, or bolts.

Our mounting options are suitable for harsh environments that include high or low temperatures, moisture, dust, impacts, and many other factors.

Tuling also offers unique design brackets or adapters for special installations and needs.

Our Surface Finishing Options

Tuling offers different surface finishing methods and treatments for aluminum enclosures. These processes enhance the properties and achieve the best aluminum enclosure quality. Some of the available finishing services are:

Anodizing: produces thick oxide coatings on the surface of our aluminum enclosures. The oxide layer produced is typically 5 to 25 μm in thickness, which enhances corrosion and wear resistance and can serve as a decorative layer.

Electroplating: is an electrochemical process that deposits a metal coating onto the surface of an aluminum enclosure. This process increases corrosion resistance and durability and stops galvanic corrosion if other metals are in contact with aluminum.

coating: is a type of free-flowing, dry powder sprayed onto the surface of aluminum. It provides exceptionally high chemical, abrasion, and corrosion resistance.

Silver plating: involves applying a thin layer of silver to the surface of aluminum enclosures. This silver layer offers outstanding surface conductivity, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic appeal.

Paint Coating: includes oil-based, epoxy, and acrylic paints applied to the surface of aluminum enclosures. In addition to color and texture, this coating also provides durability and chemical and abrasion resistance for various environmental uses.

Applications

Electronics and Telecommunication Industry
Electronics and Telecommunication Industry

The most common use is the protection of PCBs, power supplies, antennas, routers, sensors, and signal amplifiers. Aluminum enclosures provide great physical protection in harsh environments, EMI/RFI protection to ensure signal quality, great corrosion resistance, and thermal management for sensitive electrical parts.

Automotive Industry
Automotive Industry

Aluminum is lighter than steel and other metals, significantly reducing weight when used to protect critical components. Despite being lightweight, aluminum offers excellent mechanical strength. For example, IK08-IK09-rated aluminum is used for excellent impact resistance in the automotive Industry.

Marine Industry
Marine Industry

IP-rated aluminum enclosures, like 67, 68, and 69 grades, can withstand the effects of immersion in water from 15 cm to 1.5 meter for medium to long periods of time. The aluminum enclosures are also highly resistant to corrosion and contaminants, which makes them an excellent choice for marine industry equipment protection.

Aerospace Industry
Aerospace Industry

Alloys like 2024-T3, 6061-T6, and 7075-T6 are special alloys used in the aerospace Industry. Thanks to their composition, high strength, durability, weight, and corrosion resistance, they are necessary materials for safe aircraft operation which offer excellent protection for structural components in high-stress environments.

Why Not Use Steel Instead of Aluminum For Your Enclosure?

Aluminum enclosures provide benefits like less weight, they are easier to fabricate and are cost-effective over time due to lower maintenance costs.

These characteristics make them a better option in most cases for standard protection situations.

Die Cast vs. Extruded: Which Aluminum Enclosure Type is Right for You?

Die Casting and extrusion are the most commonly used aluminum shaping technologies.

The biggest difference is that Diecast Aluminum Enclosure is ideal for complex parts and models.

Extruded aluminum enclosures are used more for standard PCBs slots and standard size models.

What Are the Most Important Features to Look for When Choosing an Aluminum Enclosure?
  1. Material Quality- Aluminum 5000 and 6000 series are the best alloys for Aluminum Enclosures. They offer great prices, corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and strength.
  2. Durability- Aluminum Enclosures should be IP and NEMA rated. Depending on the number, the level of protection from dust and water is defined. For example IP67 (water resistant up to a depth of 0.9 meters for 30 minutes )
  3. Certification from Manufacturer – Compliance with industry standards, for example: ISO 9001:2015 Standard for quality management.
    RoHS Compliance
    UL Certification
