What is the difference between EMI and RF shielding?

EMI shielding mostly deals with short-range interference of high-frequency emissions. RFI shielding, on the other hand, only protects against the long wavelength interference. Typically, EMI and RFI shielding terms are used interchangeably.

How does Tuling test EMI shielding?

Shielding Effectiveness (SE) testing and Reverberation Chamber testing are designed to measure the EMI effectiveness of a shield. The planar material’s effectiveness as the EMI enclosure metal is determined with the Shielded Box test. In all these tests, the capabilities of blocking, reflecting, and absorbing electromagnetic waves are measured.

What’s the difference between RF-blocking material and radio frequency shielding material?

RF-blocking materials are designed to attenuate RF signals. Mu-Copper is an excellent example of RF-blocking materials. Radio frequency shielding materials, such as copper and aluminum, are used for blocking, absorbing, and reflecting RFI. In short, RF blocking material specifically prevents RF signal leakage, while RF shielding material utilizes broader methods to tackle RFI. Tuling can provide our customer solutions of both types of materials.
